Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study

Scripture is studied by reading texts aloud and considering the impact on those who first heard the words, as well as the impact of those same words on our lives today. Anyone may join at any time for one or more sessions. We are studying a New Testament Scripture. Currently we are studying the good News of Luke.

This book group is open to anyone interested.  A book is chosen by an attendee which inspired them or led them to look at life, love or faith differently. February 11's book is Leaving Church by Barbara Brown Taylor.  Carolyn May will lead.


 EFM

Led by Dale Chapman,

Mondays at 6PM in library

 

Education for Ministry, affectionately known as EfM, is a four-year program of theology at the University of the South (Sewanee).  Participants meet weekly to study the Old and New Testaments, Church History and Theology; worship together; and engage in theological reflection.  EfM enables participants to develop knowledge and confidence they need to engage in the ministry to which all baptized persons are called.  Pre-registration and tuition are required.

 

Irish Night                  6 :00 P.M.

The Power of Forgiveness:

Led by the Rev. Bob Sessum

The practice and struggles of forgiveness is looked at through the eyes of a Holocaust survivor, the father of a murdered child, the Amish Community and more.  What is forgiveness?  How do we forgive the what seems unforgivable? Also discussed forgiving others, forgiving one's self, our family, and more.

 

Building a Heart of Faith

Led by the Rev. Lauren Hendrick, Dcn.

Meets in Youth Suite

 

Children, youth and their parents are invited to attend. This class looks at the really tough questions in a way that is easy to understand.  It gives a theological understanding of God, of Jesus, and how the Bible calls us to live.  Some questions looked at are: "If God is always with me, then how can God be with other people too?", "Why do bad things happen to good people?" , "Why should I pray if God never answers my prayer the way I want?", "Why did God send Jesus to earth if God knew Jesus was going to die anyway?", "Why doesn't God appear in a buring bush today?"

Living the Question 2.0

Through videos and discussions we will explore the best of today's theological thought and strive to explore what's next for Christianity.  The video curriculum features insights of over twenty-five theologians and teachers considered "to be at the top of their game."  Topics include: Out in the World: Challenges facing us, Restoring Relationships, Practicing the Resurrection, Reclaiming the World, A Kingdom without Walls and Compassion: The Heart of Jesus' Ministry,and more.

Persecution: Historical & Today

Led by Dr. Keila Thomas

What is persecution?  What was the persecution faced by early Christians and others struggling to practice their faith?  What persecution is happening in the modern world?  Where?

On Jan. 31, we will watch “Faith Under Fire” and have a discussion.  On February 14, Dr. Steven Gowler, Director of General education at Berea College, will speak on early church persecution.

 

Lectio Divina

Led by Terry Samuel

This class uses the ancient art of Lectio Divina to study Sunday's Lectionary.  This is a prayerful reading of scripture and searching for where God is speaking to the individual.

Cindy and Andy Sigmon will come inform us about our Diocese Camps and Conference center. They will share the whole scope of the Cathedral Domain’s ministry, what it is, what goes on there and where is it going.


Be the Chruch

Led by the Rev. Lauren Hendrick

Sunday, March 21, following the 11:15AM service until 4P

 

After a light luch, church members of all ages will be sent out in small groups to Be the Church.  Community service projects include ST. Agnes House, Faith in Action, Florence Crittendon Home, Mayfair Manor, Adult Free Clinic and more.  Join us for this fun, yet meaningful way to spend a Sunday in Lent.  We will be the hands of God and share His love.
