Good Shepherd Choir Ely Cathedral Residency 2009

In July 2009 the choirs of Good Shepherd had the distinct honor of making a residency in Ely Cathedral.  By "residency" this means our choir was the choir in residence for an entire week.  Most cathedrals such as Ely have sung services every day, and when their choir is off for the summer months other choirs such as ours are invited to take their place.  Only a handful of American parish church choirs such as ours are chosen to make such residencies, making this event a distinct honor for us and and enormous source of pride for the Church of the Good Shepherd.

This marked Good Shepherd's fourth English Cathedral residency.  In 2003 the Choir sang services in Gloucester Cathedral, and in 2006 the Choir sang services in Lichfield Cathedral and Durham Cathedral.  The Choir's tour to England has innumerable benefits.  We put in practice going forth to proclaim the Gospel.  We represent our parish, community, and national church.  We fill the practical need for a cathedral by providing music for a week and by praying on behalf of an entire diocese.  We also return home to Good Shepherd fortified by this experience and re-energized for the coming year of music making on our home turf, inspiring our own parishioners to behold glimpses of God's beauty.
