MEET OUR NEW RECTOR!

The Reverend Canon Brian Cole

A Message from the Senior Warden:

I am pleased to announce that the Reverend Canon Brian Cole has accepted the Vestry's call to serve as the next Rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Brian currently is Sub-Dean of The Cathedral of All Souls, Asheville, North Carolina

where he has served since 2005. He previously was Vicar at Church of the Advocate, which serves the homeless in downtown Asheville. Brian has been a member of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church since 2009 and also sits on the Council's Executive Committee.

A native of Missouri, Brian graduated from Murray State University in 1989. He then received a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in 1992. Brian completed additional course work at The Sewanee School of Theology in 2002 and was ordained an Episcopal priest that same year in the Diocese of Western North Carolina.

In response to the call to become Good Shepherd's Rector, Brian said, "Susan and I are excited to be returning 'home' to Kentucky.  The parish of Good Shepherd has a strong history of service to Lexington, the diocese of Lexington, Province IV and the wider Episcopal Church.  I am humbled to serve with you and to offer pastoral leadership among you in this next chapter together."

Brian is married to Susan Weatherford.  Susan grew up on the campus of Berea College, where her father, Dr. Willis D. Weatherford, Jr, served as the sixth president from 1967 to 1984.  Brian has one son, Jess, who is 16 years old and lives in Auburn, Alabama.  Jess is an active member at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn.

Brian's first Sunday at Good Shepherd will be March 25. I know you'll join me in welcoming Brian and Susan to the Good Shepherd family and to Lexington.

Regards,
