Rector Nomination Process News October 2011 We are happy to announce that beginning this week we will begin Skype interviews with our candidates for Rector. These interviews will continue through next week, after which we will meet and work carefully together to select our final candidates for the position. Our goal is to have our final candidates selected before the end of the month so that we can move into the next stage of interviews by early November. Each phase throughout this process has required a considerable amount of prayerful support from all of you, and we hope you know just how much we appreciate it. Again, if you have any questions about our search, please feel free to find a committee member and ask - we are always happy to help! __________ September 2011 The Nominating Committee is thrilled to announce that we are moving into an exciting and critical time in our search for a new Rector for The Church of the Good Shepherd. We have received numerous qualified, excellent candidates and, through prayerful and thoughtful consideration, will be moving forward with a good number of them. Our next phase includes receiving more in-depth information from each of these candidates, including their responses to a series of narrative questions. Following receipt of these, we will work with each candidate to set up a Skype interview with the Nominating Committee. As always, we welcome and encourage any questions from the parish. We are continually appreciative for your support and prayers throughout this journey. Each step brings us closer to our new Rector for this wonderful community!
All names we have received have been preliminarily approved by the Bishop to continue the process. We are now entering into the active process of mutual discernment. Because the search and naming of a new rector is a call and not a hire, everyone involved throughout the process is committed to critical reflection and prayer for guidance and direction. We hope and ask that you also spend time in prayer for a fruitful and rewarding transition. We as a committee are searching for someone with the right skills and competencies that will allow us to meet our goals and overcome our challenges. We will carefully review each candidate's skills with our needs and vision for moving Good Shepherd forward. At this point, all candidates have been mailed a letter acknowledging our receipt of their name, along with our parish brochure and a list of questions to answer so that we may get to know them better. Upon receiving answers to those questions, we will begin to narrow down our list of candidates and work more closely with those who emerge as compatible and notable matches. Our goal is to progress to this next step by the beginning of September. At this point we are entering a confidential portion of the process for the protection of those interested in the position. We as a Nominating Committee will remain open and transparent about the process, but we must withhold any specific information about any candidate. As always, we appreciate your trust and prayers throughout this important journey. Thank you for your support!
Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a rector for this parish, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen __________ June 26, 2011 Update from Winn Stephens - Announced at 10:00 service The Nominating Committee is extremely pleased to announce that we have reached a milestone in our search for a new rector for our parish. On June 22, the position was officially declared open, which was eight days ahead of schedule! For the next six weeks, we will be receiving nominations for candidates. Those interested in pursuing this call can move forward through self-nomination or by being nominated (and agreeing to that nomination) by another person. If you are interested in nominating a potential candidate, please click here to learn more about the process.
__________June 2011 The Nominating Committee continues to move forward with the calling for a new Rector for Good Shepherd. We are happy to report that both the Vestry and Bishop Sauls approved the goals and challenges developed by the committee last month. Again, these goals and challenges were created based on all of the information collected at our four Holy Conversations. The following goals and challenges will be included in a profile brochure that will be sent to each candidate: Our Goals: 1. Grow spiritually in worship, Christian education, and prayer and to grow physically with a new parish hall, a new church organ, and an increased budget. 2. Maintain our strong community by building on our foundation of inspiring worship and music rooted in the Anglican tradition. 3. Expand our commitment to ministries within the church and strengthen our service to the local community and beyond, building upon our active participation and celebrating the uniqueness of all parish members. 4. Increase stewardship (time/talent/treasure) to equip our parish to responsibly fulfill our goals. Our Challenges: 1. Transitioning from a program sized church to a resource/corporate sized parish. 2. Training, empowering, and entrusting a greater number of members for lay leadership in order to meet the needs of our expanding inreach, outreach, and pastoral care programs. 3. Creating opportunities for service and ministry that allow members to effectively utilize their talents and desires. 4. Preserving the traditional liturgy while being receptive to new paths of worship. 5. Developing and generating effective means of communication. 6. Achieving greater understanding and larger participation in all areas of stewardship. The brochure, which we are currently working on, will contain a brief history of our parish, a narrative on who we are today as a church, our goals, challenges and important information about the Lexington Diocese. And of course we will include compelling pictures that will help tell our story. Our goal is to have the brochure to the Vestry for approval by mid-June, after which it will move on to the Bishop for final approval before printing. The brochure is only a small part of our Living Portfolio, which is sent to all viable candidates. This Living Portfolio will also contain several examples of the rich and vibrant life of our church- bulletins from Sunday services, weddings, funerals and other special events; youth event information; in-house brochures, etc. It will also contain important information about the community of Lexington for candidates to see. In addition to our work on the Living Portfolio, we are also working on completing the Ministry Portfolio, which will give the candidates a brief overview of our church and its leadership, including our contact information, average weekly Sunday attendance, logistical position information, Day School information, and Christian Formation information, to name a few. We are still on track to open the position in July and are more energized than ever to move forward in this important journey. As always, please feel free to contact anyone on the Nominating Committee with your questions. Thank you for your continued prayers and support! __________May, 2011 The Nominating Committee would like to thank everyone for their active and thoughtful participation in the four Holy Conversations held earlier this spring. Each one was a unique opportunity that allowed us to share our vision and goals for Good Shepherd and its bright future. Following the conversations, the Nominating Committee met on April 16 to synthesize every goal, disappointment and challenge referenced at those gatherings. On May 1, we met again, and through careful discussion and reflection created our parish goals and challenges, which will be presented to the Vestry for approval at their May 17 meeting. Pending Vestry approval, they will be sent to the Bishop for final approval. The Committee will then work to create our profile, which will be pulled together in a brochure that highlights our parish history, goals and challenges as well as essential information about our diocese and the city of Lexington. Our goal is to present the profile and brochure to the Vestry and Bishop for approval in June so that the position can be officially opened for candidates in July. The committee is very encouraged by the positive work so far, and we look forward to continuing this important process. Watch the website Transition page, as well as Facebook and Twitter, for progress reports. Again, we would like to thank everyone at Good Shepherd for their continued support and prayers for the election of a new rector. We welcome and encourage questions and input from everyone throughout this journey. |
